A sobering thought if you’re
expecting a baby. Of course, you’d never swap your baby’s bottle
for a gin bottle. But if you drink during pregnancy, that’s exactly what
you’re doing. From spirits to alcopops, whatever you drink, your child
drinks. So when you’re tipsy, your baby’s drunk. And when you’re
hung over, your baby could have brain damage. These problems are known as Foetal
Alcohol Syndrome. At present 1 in every 1000 babies suffers. The problem is
that so few mothers and fathers know this because of the lack of information
that’s available. However, there’s a voluntary group that’s
trying to change this. We’re called FAS Aware UK. And our aim is to let
everyone know FAS can be avoided by simply not drinking while pregnant. To spread
the word we desperately need more funds. If everyone who reads this sends us
the price of a gin and tonic, we can talk to a lot more people and spare thousands
more babies from a lifetime of unnecessary suffering. To make a donation, please
send a cheque (made payable to FAS Aware UK) to FAS Aware UK C/O West Lancashire
Council for Voluntary Service, Sandy Lane Centre, Skelmersdale, Lancashire WN8
8LP. Alternatively, for more information visit www.fasaware.co.uk and leave
your name and address.
